Essential Oils How To Use - Aromatherapy Spa

Pure essential oils have a wide range of therapeutic uses and benefits. The method applied can affect your results. In this article I will talk about how you can easily create a custom spa experience in the comforts of your own home.

First, please remember that essential oils should never be applied neat (undiluted) to your skin. There are absolutely NO exceptions to this! This includes the soles of your feet or palms of your hands. When using oils neat for inhalation purposes please exercise care and dispense your oils on a tissue or cotton ball for direct inhalation.

SKIN REJUVENATION ~ After your shower apply 3-5 drops of your favorite essential oil or blend, diluted in a carrier oil, to a warm, damp wash cloth. Rub your body briskly all over with the warm, scented wash cloth and allow your skin to air dry. Your skin will look radiant and feel silky, smooth.

BATH SALTS ~ Blend together one third cup each:

1) Epsom salts (a muscle relaxant and detoxifier)

2) Celtic salts (rich in minerals)

3) Baking soda (skin softener)

Mix your ingredients thoroughly together and add 3-4 drops of your favorite essential oil or blend. Disperse your Bath Salts into a warm bath and soak for 15-20 minutes, allowing yourself to relax fully.

SALT GLOW RUB ~ Use your BATH SALTS and give yourself a full body rub down with them before soaking in a hot bath. Adding a spoonful of your favorite Carrier Oil to the 'Salt Glow' will leave your skin feeling soft and silky smooth.

JACUZZI ~ Mix 3 drops of essential oil per person in a dispersant such as honey and add to your Jacuzzi. This may be repeated every 30 minutes. WARNING: Essential Oils may damage plastic plumbing.

RECOMMENDED Essential Oils for Your Home Spa: Lavender, Geranium, Patchouli and Ylang Ylang

FAVORITE SPA CARRIER OIL ~ For an incredible home spa experience I prefer using a certified organic, filtered and unscented Jojoba oil as it is closest to your skins own natural sebum and, as it is unscented, will not interfere with the full, aromatic impact of your essential oils.

Properly administered essential oils are a natural, safe and effective way to enhance your health and well-being and can produce satisfying results where other methods have failed. Please consult with your physician regarding your health concerns.

PLEASE NOTE: There are many cheap chemical copies of essential oils available, but these are not recommended for therapeutic use. For best results always use ethically wild crafted or pure, organic essential oils that are pesticide free!

What is aromatherapy?

The use of essential oils (extracts or essences) from flowers, herbs, and trees to promote health and well-being.
A system of caring for the body with botanical oils such as rose, lemon, lavender (used to soothe cuts, bruises and insect bites), and peppermint. These essential oils can be added to a bath, massaged through the skin, inhaled directly, used with teas, or scented in a room. This therapy is intended to relieve pain, care for the skin, and alleviate tension and fatigue.
The use of fragrant, natural, botanical essential oils from plants, leaves, bark, roots, seeds, resins and flowers as a healing art. Aromatherapy refreshes and relaxes the skin while soothing the mind by helping to induce a sense of well-being. Each individual essence is used to produce a specific beneficial effect. Used in massage and facials.
The use of essential oils from aromatic plants to restore and enhance health and beauty as defined by the American Aromatherapy Association. Aromatherapy uses as its basic ingredients essential oils, which represent the highest herbal energy. Essential oils are highly concentrated, volatile extracts retrieved from aromatic herbs, flowers, seeds and trees; they contain hormone-like properties, vitamins, minerals and natural antiseptics.
